Chiang Mai, the gem of northern Thailand, has long been a favorite destination for foreign visitors and Thais alike. Pedalers now offers a quick getaway adventure that takes you to some of Chiang Mai's hidden corners. Bike tour through hilltribe country. Rafting down exciting white water rapids. Bicycle through dark green orchards of Longan fruit and past red brick stuphas dating back 700 years to the age of King Mengrai and the founding of the Kingdom of Chiang Mai.
With two tour programs to choose from, everyone from casual travelers to cycling enthusiasts will find something to their liking. Join us for our South Route, cycling through the fertile lands along the Mae Ping as it starts its journey to Bangkok. Explore the ruins of Wiang Kum Kam and visit the workshops of Baan Tawai renowned artisans of wood. Raft the little know Mae Wang river coursing out of the western mountains.
Or perhaps the cyclist in you wants our more challenging North Route, heading into the hills north of the city visiting hilltribe villages and pedaling through lush forested valleys. Visit with the village Shaman, sharing tea and perhaps some advice. Enjoy traditional dances preformed by the village children. Then get wet and wild on a class white water run down the thrilling Mae Taeng. Come disover Chiang Mai's hidden wonders and quiet backroads.

Day by Day Itinerary
North Route: (moderate)
Day 1 - After breakfast, we drive a short way out of the city to Mae Sa Valley, where we visit an elephant camp to learn more about their lives and activities. We'll enjoy a great lunch riverside, then get everyone set up on their bikes. Our afternoon bike tour rolls through rural villages with their colorful temples and emerald rice paddies enroute to Baan Song (Baan means 'village'). Here we will be staying in a lodge designed in traditional Lisu tribe style, but offering all the western ammenities. Before dinner walk through the local village visiting with the Shaman and exploring a medicinal herb garden. Enjoy Lisu Tribal dances during dinner. (45 kms)
Day 2 - In the morning, you can experience a trip by Ox Cart through the fruit orchards and small villages surrounding our lodge, traveling the way Thais did 50 years ago. Mid-morning, we will set out again on our bikes, pedaling deep into the hills surrounding the region. The route is lush and beautiful, tropical forests, towering teak trees and more. We break for lunch on the riverside, then meet with our rafting guides. The afternoon will be a exciting class 3 white water run down 10 kms of the Mae Taeng (Mae means 'river'). You will return to Chiang Mai in late afternoon. (15 kms)
South Route: (easy)
Day 1 - Today's flat pedal takes us south along the route on the Mae Ping, was it meanders through small villages and vast Longan planations. Our first stop will be to explore Wiang Kum Kam, the site of the first city of Chiang Mai founded by King Mengrai some 700 years ago. Accompanied by a park guide, we will pedal around exploring these vast ruins only recently excavated from underneath the local orchards. After lunch we continue south to the handicraft village of Baan Tawai, specializing in wood carving and wood working. Our hotel is located in the heart of this village. (27 kms)
Day 2 - After breakfast we work our way through the morning bustle of nearby Hang Dong town, then back into the quiet countryside enroute to meeting our rafting guides. Enjoy a traditional Thai lunch at one the of small cafe's along our route, then we will set out for a exciting afternoon rafting down the narrow gorge of the Mae Wan, only recently opened to rafting. You will return to Chiang Mai in late afternoon. (15 kms)

Private departures can be arranged pretty much year round. November thru March is best with warm temperatures and little rain. April & May may not have rafting available. June until October is the rainy season, cooler temperatures but a chance of several days of rain. Get your wheels rolling and request your At Your Request date today. Meeting & Flights:
The tour meets in the afternoon of Day 1 at Chiang Mai Airport. Guides will meet your incoming flight between 12 noon and 5 pm, please plan your flights to arrive accordingly. The trip ends at Chiang Mai Airport around 5 pm on Day 3. Guests who have booked their post tour accommodations in Chiang Mai through our office will be dropped at their lodges after the airport drop off.

Domestic Flights:
If you are arriving from outside Asia, we suggest booking your flight between Bangkok & Chiang Mai separately from your international flight, as it will usually work out much more economical. For ease of connecting with international flights at Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi Airport, we suggest using either Thai Airways or Bangkok Airways. Route Conditions:
The entire ride is on paved roads, most with nice pavement and wide shoulders. Traffic is moderate to light and very bike friendly. The route is suitable for performance road, sport road and touring bikes. Terrain is a mix flat, with some moderate hills midway through the route and at the finish point.
Visas & Travel Documents:
Passports are required for all guests. Your passport should have at least 6 months validity past your intended travel dates. Visas are not required for citizens of the USA, Canada, UK, EU, Japan, Australia and New Zealand, a 30 day Entry Permit is issued upon arrival in Bangkok.
