Thailand Bicycle Tours & Cycling Holidays Heart of Lanna 6 days, Inn to Inn
“Explore the colorful world of Northern Thailand beyond Chiang Mai. Discover its charm and cuisine. Delve into its history and culture.”
Experience northern Thailand's fabled city of Chiang Mai and the colorful surrounding countryside on our fixed base tour: Heart of Lanna. We'll discover picturesque 700 year old temples tucked away in quiet neightborhoods, explore the bustling local markets, visit the ancient city of Wiang Kum Kam, soak in hot springs and even learn to cook some of the tasty Thai cuisine. The flat countryside and moderate rides make this tour ideal for casual cyclists, families and folks looking for a relaxing active holiday. For you serious riders, we can also set the trip up with longer rides and a dramatic, challenging loop around Doi Suthep as a grand finale.
Unlike our other Thailand tours, this trip spends every night in the same hotel, no need to pack and unpack each day. Our carefully selected lodges are located in the heart of the old city section of Chiang Mai, surrounded by 700 year old temples, colorful markets, quiet lanes and everyday life. The design of your boutique inn has been inspired by traditional lanna architecture, but also blends in modern conveniences and ammenities. And food ... awesome ... Thai cuisine is some of the best in Asia (and the world) and served up in copious portions to recharge you for the next day's adventure.
Come discover the former Lanna Kingdom, experiencing Chiang Mai beyond the normal tourist circuit.

Day by Day Itinerary
Day 1 - Your bike tour group will gather today in the picturesque northern city of Chiang Mai. After checking into our lodge, we will get everyone set up with their bikes, then head out for a traditional northern Khan Toke dinner with classical Thai and hill tribe dancing. (D)
Day 2 - The day starts with a leisurely cycle around the old town section of Chiang Mai. Still surrounded by the ancient moats and part of the former fortifications, this part of the city is a unique mix of 700 year old stuphas and modern low rise offices, open air street markets and busy schools. We will visit several of the city's historic temples and parks. Returning to the hotel, you have part of the afternoon free for a swim or stroll, then head out for a slightly different dinner, at a Thai Cooking school. You will learn and prepare your own delightful dishes that you choose from the 'menu'. 12 mi / 19 kms (B,D)
Day 3 - We will shuttle out of town today, avoiding the morning traffic, to the village of Tha Wang Tan. Here we set out by bicycle to tour the ancient ruins of Wiang Kum Kam, site of the first kingdom of Chiang Mai started by King Mengrai. Scattered through the orchards, the ruins provide a glimpse of old Thailand. Afterwards we will head out for a ride along the old royal highway, lined by towering rubber trees planted some 130 years ago, it is like pedaling between giants. Our last stop will be the village of Baan Tawai, renowned for its wood working craftsmen. 22 mi / 35 kms (B,L,D)
Day 4 - This morning we head north to Mae Sa Valley, where our day starts with a visit to the elephant camp. Here you can watch the morning bathing and a bit of a tourist show demonstrating the elephants former work, as well as some unexpected talents. After the show we mount our bikes and continue north, following quiet rural roads through bright green rice paddies, past colorful temples and small villages. A chance to experience everyday life in Thailand. We will stop to explore the bustling market in Mae Malai and then wind our ride down at the amazing Wat Baan Den temple complex. 28 mi / 45 kms (B,L)
Day 5 - Our last ride heads east, through a region bespeckled with craftshops. We'll stop to visit a few, giving you a chance to understand what goes into the handicrafts you saw at the night markets in Chiang Mai. After lunch our bike tour continues through more of the rural landscapes surrounding Chiang Mai to the hot springs at San Kamphaeng, where we will stop for an afternoon soak. Tonight for our final dinner, we head out to one of our favorite restaurants situated right on the banks of the Mae Ping (river). 27 mi / 43 kms(B,L,D)
Day 6 - Our cycling holiday must come to an end today, with shuttles to the airport for your flights home or on to more adventure. Khap khun khap, sawasdee khap (B)
