Bicycling the Kingdom of Bhutan GAINESVILLE, FL - Shangri-la, a land of secluded valleys and peaceful villages, hidden by towering snow capped mountains, ruled by a wise king and untouched by the outside world for centuries. Hollywood has presented this fantasy to us many a time, but this fabled land really does exist outside the world of Hollywood, in the Kingdom of Bhutan. Pedalers Pub & Grille is offering a delightful tour through Shangri-la by bicycle. A unique two week journey across the western half of the kingdom takes in a variety of the different aspects Bhutan offers. Cyclists will visit the ancient Dzongs, fortified temples that date back through the ages, and hike to Taktshang Goenpa (the Tiger's Nest Monastery) where special permits will allow us into the temple grounds. They will spend time experiencing life on a local village farm and pedal through primeval forests and across high alpine passes. Departures are timed to enjoy nature's wonders as well. The March departure enjoy springtime's floral displays as the fruit orchards burst into bloom and carpets of Rhododendron flowers cover the foothills oF the Himalayas. The October dates offer outstanding views of the surrounding Himalayan Range, its snow capped peaks soaring skyward. The Kingdom of Bhutan bicycle tour is a 12 day trip, featuring regional inns and first class hotel accommodations, all meals, full support by a crew composed of both American and Bhutanese guides, sag wagons and special permits to visit some places off the normal tourist circuit.
