Take some mountain climbs worthy of the Tour de France, drape them with lush green tropical forests, sprinkle in some villages of bamboo huts, then blend in the friendly Thais and their delicious cuisine and you have our most exotic alpine tour: Thailand - Valley of the Mists.

This week long trip pedals through the relatively un-touristed western provinces of Thailand, traveling from Mae Sariang through Mae Hong Son and on to Pai. The first few days are rolling, with some fun short climbs, taking us first to tiny Khun Yuam and then to picturesque Mae Hong Son, where the movie Air America was filmed (our delightful hotel there was built as part of the set). The second leg gets serious, with several invigorating climbs each day, as we roll through Soppong, Pai and finally to Chiang Mai.

Come join us for a grand ride through a relatively un-touristed part of Thailand. Enjoy the friendly folks, excellent food, great scenery and challenging pedaling. Discover Thailand's Valley of the Mists.

Itinerary (day-by-day)

Day 1 - We will be meeting at Chiang Mai Airport and then drive south. We'll take a break from the drive to explore the deep Ob Luang Gorge, before crossing the mountain range to our hotel in Mae Sariang.

Day 2 - We start with a rolling ride through the lush forests and green rice fields of the Nam Mae Yaum river valley. We'll be passing the Nong Haong Hot Springs, before reaching our lodge in diminutive Khun Yuam. 106 kms / 66 mi

Day 3 - Today's route continues northward through the lush foothills, ut with many less climbs than the day before. We wind down our ride in Mae Hong Son, at our hotel which was built for the film Air America. After relaxing a bit, we'll set out by boat to visit a village of Paduang refugees (long necked women). 77 kms / 48 mi

Day 4 - You will earn your cold Singhas today, as we tackle the first of our big climbing days. Early in the ride we'll visit Tham Pla or Fish Cave, where massive schools of fish gather in the warm water issuing from under the rock. Then we off to conquer several passes enroute to our overnight stop in the village of Soppong. 77 kms / 48 mi

Day 5 - A relatively short day mileage wise, after yesterday's challenge. We have only one pass to do today but it is a big one, then it is downhill and rolling terrain to the town of Pai. We will continue a bit beyond town to Tha Pai Hot Springs where we spend the night. You can relax in the hot spring fed pool at our hotel or wander down to the Hot Spring Park. 58 kms / 36 mi

Day 6 - Continuing through the rural mountain region, we tackle our last climbs. Up top of the climb, you roll along the ridge line for a while, the terrain is scenic, overlooking thick forests and small villages. In the town of Ban Pang Hong, we'll load up in the support van and drive back to Chiang Mai, where we'll celebrate the end of a great ride in our favorite riverside restaurant. 77 kms / 48

Day 7 - We'll be shuttling everyone back to the airport for your trip home or onward to more adventures.

Note: A 10 Day version is also available, that cycles from Chiang Mai to Hot, then the next day onto to Mae Sariang where our standard itinerary resumes. We also add an extra day of valley cycling pedaling back into Chiang Mai from Baan Rai (we pedal a bit further from Ban Pang Hong to Baan Rai to our lodge the last day of riding in our standard itinerary above).
