Riding with Pedalers

bicycle tours, bike trips, cycling holidaysThe freedom to ride at your own pace and spectacular routes are the hallmarks of our trips. We provide you with a written route sheet for each day, you decide what you want to see and do, then set your pace for a day of fun. No mandatory rendezvous for boring museum monologues and no tight timetables to restrict your explorations.

Our daily rides run longer than most companies. We provide a full day's ride, while leaving enough time for "off the bike" exploring and relaxing. Our daily routes average 35 to 65 miles, with an occasional longer day (maybe even a century ride) thrown in. When our trips go longer than a week, you enjoy a layover day after every third or fourth day of pedaling, a chance to hike, shop, sleep or sightsee without the bike. Your tour route will roll through a variety of terrain, ranging from flat farmlands to undulating hills to spectacular alpine passes.

Our rides are scheduled to take advantage of the best weather for our destination . . . warm sunny days, cool relaxing evenings. We avoid hotter times of year, so we don't have to get up at 5 am to ride before the heat hits. And do our best to miss the rainy periods . . . but then it wouldn't be a real bike ride in paradise if we didn't enjoy at least one tropical afternoon shower.

A relaxed daily schedule is another hallmark at Pedalers. No need for an alarm clock, we don't rendezvous for breakfast until 8 . . . on the road around 9, lunch at the mid point of the day's ride, then reach the hotel in late afternoon . . . gather with your friends for a couple of cold beers and tall tales around 6, head out for an awesome dinner around 7 . . . bicycle tours, bike trips, cycling holidaystake a stroll through the town afterwards to walk off the excessive amount of food you just ate . . . get in a good solid 8 hours sleep before starting again.

Easier Days for Uneven Partners

We find that some couples have opposing ideas of how many miles is fun. For groups with a rider looking for less miles, we offer our exclusive Leap Frog Option. Unlike other tours where the sag hauls the tired rider in at day's end, we provide a shuttle in the morning to shorten the day's mileage. This allows the stronger rider to hammer for a while early in the day, then rejoin their partner for a leisurely afternoon finish. It also lets the shorter distance rider to enjoy the sense of accomplishment of finishing each day's ride on their bike, not in the back seat of the van.

Which Bike ?

bicycle tours, bike trips, cycling holidaysMost of our tours have been designed with road and touring bicycles in mind. Our routes are entirely on paved roads and our longer distances are more easily done with road tires. Of course, you are most welcome to bring the bike you are most comfortable on, and folks can enjoy these rides on mountain bikes and hybrids (though we suggest equipping them with road tires). On many of our trips, we do not offer rentals bikes, as with the distances involved and the duration of the tours, most guests will be more comfortable on a bike they are used to. Your guide team is ready to help you unpack and prepare your bike for the ride

We offer rental bikes on selected tours in Southeast Asia. Our rental bikes are all Cannondales, a mix of road bikes and hybrid bikes (usually only one style per location).

Ride Ratings

Rating tours is always difficult, everyone's idea of advanced or intermediate, challenging or easy, flat or hilly, etc is different. Rather than classifying the rides, we provide you with lodging, terrain and distance data, so you can decide if it fits your idea of a suitable ride. On each bike tour's page you will find a listing of total and average daily mileage, plus a Ride Rating that displays accommodation and terrain for that tour.

The terrain for a ride is indicated by the Letter displayed in the Ride Rating area. Below we have outlined our terrain groups. Since your perspective of large and small climbs is dependent on your cycling experience, you should keep in mind our reference is the terrain of the world, not the midwest, so our idea of mountains is the Rockies and the Alps with climbs of a few thousand feet, large hills can involve climbs of 1000 feet or more and small hills can be several hundred feet tall.

A - mostly flat with some small hills
B - mix of flat and hilly (mostly small hills)
C - mostly hilly, mix of small and large
D - mostly hilly with some mountains
E - mountainous
